About this collection

Mission:
The American Subculture Digital Library documents the small subcultural music scene that existed in Central Florida between 1998 and 2001. This collection is a searchable archive of photos and ephemera related to the history and growth of this music scene. The purpose behind building this collection was to inspire greater interest in alternative media and ephemera in the archives and special collections world, and hopefully spur further work with similar objects.

Collection Development Policy:
The original collection is based on materials owned by Micah Vandegrift, who grew up in this subculture. Eventually, we hope to grow the colleciton by soliciting donations of other photographic collections from others involved in this group.

Metadata Standards:
We based our metadata schema on Dublic Core, but only utilized 10 of the fields. We referred to a NISO report titled "A Framework of Guidance for Building Good Digital Collections" for the majority of our metadata development.
